The Malibu 20 MXZ was first introduced in 2014 as the smallest member of Malibu’s popular MXZ (Maximum Zone) series. Designed to offer the same premium wake and surf performance as its larger siblings—the 22 MXZ and 24 MXZ—the 20 MXZ quickly became one of Malibu’s most popular compact models.
At 20 feet long with a 98-inch beam, the 20 MXZ is designed for riders who want a manageable boat that still feels spacious and capable. Built on Malibu’s Wake Plus hull, it creates large, powerful wakes and clean surf waves with excellent push. The hull design provides stability at all speeds and maintains a smooth ride even in choppy conditions.
Power comes from Malibu’s Monsoon inboard engine lineup, typically ranging from the 360-horsepower M5Di to the 430-horsepower M6Di. These engines deliver consistent torque and efficient performance, even when the ballast system is fully loaded. With Malibu’s Surf Gate system, Power Wedge III, and up to 3,000 pounds of ballast, the 20 MXZ can generate surf waves that rival much larger boats.
Inside, the 20 MXZ features Malibu’s signature picklefork bow that opens up the front seating area, creating extra room for passengers and gear. The layout includes wraparound seating, premium vinyl, and space for up to 12 passengers. The helm offers touchscreen controls and Malibu Command Center functionality, allowing full customization of surf wave shape, ballast levels, and engine data.
