The Malibu Echelon is a direct-drive ski boat that defined precision performance during the 1990s. Designed for slalom and tournament skiing, the Echelon combines Malibu’s craftsmanship with an efficient hull that produces soft, symmetrical wakes and exceptional tracking. It remains one of Malibu’s most respected ski boats, valued for its smooth pull, responsive handling, and classic lines.

The Malibu Echelon was first introduced for the 1993 model year as a flagship ski boat within Malibu’s performance lineup. Built for professional-level slalom competition, it quickly became known for its precise tracking, balanced feel, and soft, consistent wakes. The Echelon replaced earlier Malibu models like the Skier and Euro F3, bringing modern design and technology to Malibu’s ski boat segment.

Throughout its production run from 1993 to 1998, the Echelon was offered in several configurations including the standard Echelon, the Echelon LX with a rear trunk and open bow, and the Echelon LXI, which debuted later with updated styling and features. All versions used Malibu’s Diamond hull, a precision-tuned design that provided minimal wake at skiing speeds while maintaining excellent control and smooth ride quality.

Power came from Indmar and MerCruiser inboard engines, typically ranging between 265 and 340 horsepower depending on the model and year. These engines gave the Echelon strong holeshot performance and a steady, tournament-quality pull for competitive slalom skiers.

The interior reflected Malibu’s emphasis on simplicity and driver focus, with quality materials, functional gauges, and a clean layout. Later models added updated dash styling, more storage, and refined upholstery.

Today, the Malibu Echelon is regarded as a classic among ski boat enthusiasts, known for its durable construction, predictable handling, and timeless design. Many well-maintained examples remain on the water, continuing to deliver the performance that made Malibu a respected name in the ski world.
