The Malibu Sunsetter is one of Malibu’s most iconic family ski and wake boats, offering the perfect blend of performance, comfort, and space. Known for its smooth handling, soft wakes, and dependable inboard power, the Sunsetter has been a favorite for families who enjoy both skiing and wakeboarding. With Malibu’s signature craftsmanship and attention to detail, the Sunsetter delivers a premium experience on the water that stands the test of time.

The Malibu Sunsetter series was first introduced in the late 1980s and remained a cornerstone of Malibu’s lineup for nearly two decades. It was designed as a versatile family inboard boat capable of tournament-level ski performance while offering the room and comfort of a recreational cruiser. Through the years, the Sunsetter evolved from a compact direct-drive layout into larger V-drive models with advanced wake systems and upgraded amenities.

Early Sunsetter models from the late 1980s and early 1990s were built on Malibu’s Diamond hull, known for producing soft, flat wakes ideal for slalom skiing. As wake sports grew in popularity, Malibu introduced the Sunsetter LX and LXi versions in the mid to late 1990s, which offered more interior space, open bows, and optional wake towers. These configurations made the Sunsetter one of the most capable crossover boats of its time.

By the early 2000s, Malibu launched V-drive variants such as the Sunsetter VLX and 23 LXi, which shared hull designs and features with the emerging Wakesetter line. These boats delivered larger, rampier wakes that appealed to wakeboarders while maintaining strong slalom characteristics. Power options included Indmar Monsoon and Hammerhead engines ranging from 310 to over 400 horsepower, ensuring reliable pull and consistent performance across all water conditions.

Inside, the Malibu Sunsetter offered premium seating for up to 10 or more passengers, depending on the model. Features included high-quality vinyl, large storage areas, ergonomic controls, and open layouts for easy movement throughout the boat. With its balance of luxury, performance, and durability, the Sunsetter became one of Malibu’s most successful and recognizable series.

Today, the Malibu Sunsetter remains a sought-after used boat thanks to its timeless design, crossover versatility, and proven reliability. Whether you prefer slalom skiing, wakeboarding, or simply cruising, the Sunsetter delivers the perfect mix of Malibu performance and family comfort.
