MasterCraft ProStar 205 Boats for Sale
The MasterCraft ProStar 205 is one of the most versatile and celebrated inboards ever produced, offering the perfect balance between tournament-level performance and family-friendly usability. With its 20.5-foot length, deep seating, and smooth, consistent wakes, the ProStar 205 delivers everything skiers, wakeboarders, and recreational boaters look for in a dependable all-around inboard. Known for its legendary handling and high-quality construction, the ProStar 205 became the foundation for several of MasterCraft’s most successful models.
The MasterCraft ProStar 205 was introduced in the early 1990s as a larger, more spacious alternative to the direct-drive ProStar 190. Measuring approximately 20 feet 6 inches in length with a beam of about 90 inches, the 205 was designed to blend tournament-level performance with greater passenger capacity and comfort. Its deeper hull, open bow, and well-balanced running surface quickly made it one of the most popular ski boats of its time.
The ProStar 205’s direct-drive configuration placed the engine near the center of the boat, creating exceptional balance and tracking through turns and ski courses. The hull design produced soft, flat wakes at slalom speeds and a clean, well-defined wake for recreational wakeboarding. As wakeboarding grew in popularity during the mid to late 1990s, the 205 gained a reputation as a true crossover boat that could do it all — skiing, wakeboarding, and cruising — with equal capability.
Power for the ProStar 205 typically came from Indmar inboard engines ranging from 275 to 320 horsepower, depending on model year and package. These engines provided reliable torque and smooth acceleration, and the boat’s lightweight hull gave it excellent efficiency. The precise steering and well-balanced handling made it easy for both experienced drivers and casual boaters to enjoy.
In the late 1990s, MasterCraft introduced a V-drive version of the 205, known as the ProStar 205V, which shifted the engine to the rear and dramatically increased interior space. The 205V’s deeper hull and weight distribution created a larger wake, appealing to wakeboarders and helping inspire the development of MasterCraft’s first X-Series boats. In fact, the ProStar 205V hull became the foundation for the original MasterCraft X-Star, which went on to define the early era of wakeboarding competition.
The ProStar 205 featured classic MasterCraft construction with a hand-laid fiberglass hull, composite stringers, and stainless hardware throughout. Its interior included high-quality upholstery, open-bow seating, and practical storage that made it comfortable for families.
Production of the ProStar 205 continued through the early 2000s before being phased out as MasterCraft transitioned to purpose-built wake and surf models. Despite this, the 205 remains one of the most respected and versatile boats ever built by MasterCraft. It combines exceptional craftsmanship, balanced performance, and timeless usability — a hallmark that has made it one of the most desirable used inboards on the market today.
