The MasterCraft ProStar 209 is a 20-foot inboard that combines tournament-level precision with family-friendly versatility. Designed for boaters who wanted more space and comfort without sacrificing ski performance, the ProStar 209 delivers a smooth, balanced ride and clean wakes for both skiing and wakeboarding. Built with the same craftsmanship and reliability found throughout the MasterCraft lineup, the 209 remains a popular choice for those who want an all-around inboard that can handle multiple on-water activities with ease.

The MasterCraft ProStar 209 was introduced in the early 2000s as a crossover ski and family boat positioned between the compact ProStar 197 and the larger Maristar or X-Series models. Measuring about 20 feet 9 inches in length with a beam of 91 inches, the ProStar 209 provided additional interior room, deeper freeboard, and greater versatility than smaller competition ski boats while maintaining excellent handling and precision.

Built on a modified tournament hull, the ProStar 209 offered smooth, flat wakes for slalom skiing at higher speeds and clean, ramp-style wakes for wakeboarding when weighted. This balance made it one of the most flexible boats in MasterCraft’s lineup at the time, appealing to both serious skiers and families who wanted to enjoy a variety of water sports.

The 209 was offered in both direct-drive and V-drive configurations, depending on model year and buyer preference. The direct-drive version catered to skiers who valued balance and tracking, while the V-drive variant, sometimes marketed as the 209V, shifted the engine to the rear to open up cockpit space and enhance wake performance. The V-drive version’s layout also allowed for more seating and storage, making it ideal for larger groups.

Power for the ProStar 209 came from Indmar or Ilmor inboard engines, typically small-block V8s producing between 310 and 330 horsepower. These engines provided smooth acceleration and reliable power for skiing, wakeboarding, or cruising. Combined with MasterCraft’s precision driveline and steering setup, the 209 delivered predictable handling and strong all-around performance.

The interior of the ProStar 209 reflected MasterCraft’s focus on comfort and durability. It offered seating for up to ten passengers, a spacious open bow, and wraparound lounge seating in the cockpit. Premium vinyl, stainless steel hardware, and well-planned storage areas added to the boat’s usability and longevity.

The 209 also shared design and hull characteristics with early versions of the MasterCraft X-9, which used the same running surface and layout but was equipped for wakeboard and surf-specific use. This connection reinforced the ProStar 209’s reputation as a true crossover capable of both flat ski wakes and larger, shaped wakeboard wakes.

The ProStar 209 remained in production through the mid-2000s before being succeeded by newer crossover models in the X-Series. Today, it is still widely recognized as one of MasterCraft’s most successful multi-purpose boats. Its size, balance, and proven hull design make it a sought-after option on the used market for families and enthusiasts who want both ski performance and versatility in one dependable package.
