MasterCraft X20 Boats for Sale
The MasterCraft X20 is a 20-foot premium surf and wake boat that brings big-water performance to a compact size. Designed for families and riders who want powerful surf waves, clean wakeboard wakes, and luxury-level comfort, the X20 combines MasterCraft’s renowned build quality with advanced technology and efficient design. As the first 20-foot boat built specifically for wakesurfing, the X20 delivers world-class waves, precision handling, and full-size features in a trailer-friendly footprint.
The MasterCraft X20 was introduced for the 2015 model year as part of the company’s X-Series, marking a major step forward in compact surf boat design. Measuring 20 feet in length with a beam of 100 inches, the X20 was the first MasterCraft engineered specifically for wakesurfing within the 20-foot class. Its deep, sculpted hull and large ballast capacity allowed it to produce surf waves comparable to much larger boats while remaining easy to store, tow, and operate.
The X20’s hull was designed using computer-modeled hydrodynamics to optimize displacement and wake shape. With the factory ballast system providing over 2,000 pounds of capacity and the integrated Gen 2 Surf System, the X20 generated clean, powerful, and customizable surf waves on both sides of the boat. Riders could fine-tune wave height, length, and push through the touchscreen interface at the helm. The wakeboard performance was equally impressive, offering smooth, ramp-style wakes with excellent pop and clean transitions.
Power came from Ilmor inboard engines, most commonly the 5.7L MPI rated at 320 horsepower or the optional 6.0L GDI producing 373 horsepower. These engines delivered strong, reliable torque for towing riders and maintained efficient operation even with full ballast. The X20’s V-drive layout maximized interior space, with the engine positioned aft to improve weight distribution for wake and surf performance.
Inside, the X20 offered seating for up to 12 passengers with MasterCraft’s signature attention to fit and finish. The cockpit featured wraparound lounge seating, a large open bow, and convertible rear seating that could face forward or aft toward the rider. Storage compartments were placed throughout the boat, and premium vinyl, stainless hardware, and hand-finished details reflected the same craftsmanship found in MasterCraft’s larger flagship models.
The helm was equipped with an intuitive touchscreen interface that controlled speed, ballast, and surf presets, making setup easy for riders of any skill level. The deep freeboard design gave the boat a secure, comfortable feel on the water, and the ZFT tower provided board storage and tow points for wakeboarding, surfing, and tubing.
The X20 was praised for its ability to deliver true surf performance without the size, weight, or storage requirements of larger boats. It bridged the gap between entry-level models and full-size surf boats, offering a refined ride and high-end features in a compact form.
Production of the X20 continued through the late 2010s, when it was eventually succeeded by the MasterCraft XT20, which carried forward its surf-focused design with updated hull geometry and technology. Even today, the X20 remains one of the most respected 20-foot surf boats ever built, known for its versatility, build quality, and exceptional on-water performance.
