The MasterCraft X45 is a 24-foot premium wake and surf boat designed to deliver professional-level performance, exceptional comfort, and room for large crews. Built to handle big water and create massive wakes, the X45 became one of MasterCraft’s most recognized and celebrated large models. With its deep-V hull, generous seating, and powerful Ilmor or Indmar inboard engines, the X45 continues to set the standard for size, luxury, and wave capability among 24-foot inboards.
The MasterCraft X45 was introduced in 2006 as one of the largest and most feature-rich boats in the company’s X-Series lineup. Measuring 24 feet 2 inches in length with a beam of 102 inches, the X45 was designed for riders and families who wanted space, performance, and comfort all in one. Its deep-V hull provided excellent handling in choppy water and generated large, powerful wakes that made it a favorite among serious wakeboarders and surf enthusiasts.
The X45’s hull was optimized for displacement and balance, allowing it to produce clean, ramp-style wakes and long surf waves with impressive push. With more than 1,200 pounds of standard factory ballast and the ability to expand with optional plug-and-play systems, the X45 could be tailored for wakeboarding, wakesurfing, or recreational skiing. When MasterCraft introduced its Gen 2 Surf System later in its production run, the X45 became even more capable, producing longer and more customizable surf waves on both sides.
Power for the X45 came from Indmar and later Ilmor inboard engines, ranging from 350 to 522 horsepower depending on the year and configuration. Common options included the Indmar 6.0L LY6, the Ilmor 6.2L GDI, and the 7.4L MPI. These engines provided strong torque and smooth acceleration, ensuring consistent pull even with heavy ballast and full passenger loads.
Inside, the X45 delivered the luxury and space expected of a flagship model. It could seat up to 18 passengers, making it one of the most spacious inboards ever built at the time. The wraparound lounge seating featured high backrests, deep cushions, and abundant storage underneath. The wide bow offered additional seating and an optional filler cushion to create a sun lounge. The transom design included a large rear-facing seat and an integrated walkthrough to the swim platform.
The helm was built for comfort and control, featuring a captain’s chair with bolster, tilt steering, and clear instrumentation. Later models included digital touchscreen controls for ballast, speed, and surf settings. The standard ZFT tower provided board racks, speakers, and bimini shade options, while upgraded audio packages from JL Audio or Klipsch created a premium onboard experience.
On the water, the X45 was praised for its powerful performance and smooth, stable ride. It handled big water confidently and produced wakes large enough for advanced riders, while still maintaining balance and predictability. Its deep hull and weight distribution gave it a natural surf advantage, making it one of the top-performing surf boats of its era.
Production of the X45 continued through 2013 before it was replaced by newer large models such as the X46 and X55, and later the X26. Despite the evolution of MasterCraft’s lineup, the X45 remains a highly sought-after model on the used market for its impressive size, quality, and proven all-around performance. It represents a defining moment in MasterCraft’s history, where large-scale comfort met true wake and surf capability.
