MB Sports F23 Tomcat Boats for Sale
The MB Sports F23 Tomcat was the largest model in the original Tomcat series and one of MB’s most capable wake and surf boats. Built for riders who wanted maximum space and wave performance, the F23 Tomcat combined the aggressive picklefork styling of the Tomcat line with MB’s proven deep-V hull and gravity-fed ballast system. Though now discontinued, it remains a favorite among enthusiasts for its reliable performance, hand-built quality, and impressive surf capabilities.
The MB Sports F23 Tomcat was introduced as the flagship of the Tomcat lineup, expanding on the success of the F21 and F22 models. Designed for larger crews and bigger water, the F23 offered more length, freeboard, and ballast than any previous Tomcat. Built at MB’s facility in Merced, California, the F23 embodied the same focus on craftsmanship, simplicity, and wake performance that defined every MB Sports boat of its era.
At 23 feet long, the F23 Tomcat provided a deep, comfortable interior with a wide picklefork bow and wraparound lounge seating. The extra length improved handling in rougher water and allowed for more ballast, producing larger wakes and surf waves with better overall consistency. Like its smaller siblings, the F23 used MB’s distinctive gravity-fed ballast system, which filled and drained through gate valves instead of pumps. This system made operation fast and reliable while minimizing maintenance. Later models offered plug and play ballast connections and integrated the MB Surf System, giving drivers the ability to switch surf sides and adjust wave shape directly from the helm.
The F23 Tomcat’s deep-V hull was engineered for surf and wake performance, creating clean, well-formed wakes and long, powerful surf waves. The hull’s shape also provided excellent stability and a smooth ride, making it comfortable for passengers even when fully weighted. These design features helped position the F23 as one of the best-performing large boats in MB’s history prior to the release of the Alpha series.
Power options for the F23 Tomcat included both Indmar and PCM engines, typically in 5.7, 6.0, or 6.2 liter configurations. These engines offered the torque needed to handle heavy ballast and deliver strong acceleration for towing wakeboarders and surfers. Combined with MB’s lightweight construction and efficient hull design, the F23 maintained responsive handling despite its larger size.
Inside, the F23 Tomcat showcased MB’s hand-built quality with premium upholstery, a deep interior layout, and ample storage. The wide picklefork bow offered comfortable forward seating, while the cockpit provided enough room for family-sized crews. Every detail of the F23 reflected MB’s focus on durability and long-term reliability rather than unnecessary complexity.
Although the F23 Tomcat was eventually discontinued as MB introduced new models under the Alpha series, it remains one of the brand’s most respected boats. Known for its consistent performance, solid construction, and surf-ready design, the F23 Tomcat continues to be sought after on the used market for its blend of size, power, and simplicity.
