The Moomba Mobius XLV was introduced in the mid-2000s as the flagship model of Moomba’s Mobius lineup. Built by Skier’s Choice in Maryville, Tennessee, the XLV was developed for riders who wanted a larger, deeper, and more capable boat without the premium price tag of luxury brands. Its 23-foot hull, spacious interior, and strong V-drive configuration made it one of the most versatile and affordable large wake boats on the market.
The Mobius XLV’s design centered around creating big, clean wakes and plenty of room for passengers. The deep-V hull produced solid, rampy wakes with a defined lip that appealed to both wakeboarders and surfers. The size and shape of the hull also made it stable and predictable at speed, with the extra freeboard providing a dry, comfortable ride even in choppier water. When fully weighted, the XLV was capable of generating long surf waves and large, powerful wakeboard wakes that rivaled more expensive boats of the time.
Power came from Indmar inboard engines, most commonly the 5.7 liter Assault V8, though later versions offered the 6.0 liter option for added torque. These engines delivered smooth, reliable power and easy maintenance, helping the XLV earn a reputation for long-term dependability. The combination of strong Indmar power and efficient hull design made the boat well suited for towing large crews and heavy ballast setups.
The interior of the Mobius XLV was one of its biggest strengths. With seating for up to 16 people, it provided ample room for families and groups of riders. The wraparound lounge layout, open bow, and large transom sun pad maximized space and comfort. Durable marine vinyl, straightforward instrumentation, and abundant storage reflected Moomba’s practical, value-focused design philosophy. Later model years added upgraded materials, larger factory ballast tanks, and optional surf systems, enhancing both comfort and performance.
The XLV’s factory ballast system and tower made it ready for wakeboarding and surfing right from the showroom. Many owners later upgraded ballast capacity to take full advantage of the boat’s large hull. Combined with Moomba’s Digital Cruise Pro speed control, the XLV provided consistent towing speeds and customizable wake shapes with minimal setup effort.
Production of the Mobius XLV continued until the mid-2010s, when Moomba introduced the larger Mojo and Makai models that carried forward its spirit of space and performance. Despite being discontinued, the XLV remains a highly respected boat among used buyers thanks to its blend of reliability, size, and surf potential. It continues to represent one of the best values in the 23-foot inboard class.
