The Nautique 216 is a direct drive inboard that represents one of the most refined crossover boats ever built by Correct Craft. Designed to perform well for both waterskiing and wakeboarding, the 216 combined Nautique’s precision handling with the solid construction quality that defined the brand. With a 21-foot 6-inch length and generous beam, it provided more interior space than earlier direct drive models while maintaining a balanced running attitude and clean wakes. Its smooth tracking, predictable pulls, and stable ride made it a favorite among families who wanted one boat to handle all water sports. The Nautique 216 also featured comfortable wraparound seating, deep freeboard for a secure feel, and the same high-quality gelcoat, vinyl, and hardware used across the Nautique lineup.

The Nautique 216 was introduced in the early 2000s as Correct Craft’s largest direct drive model, positioned between the ski-focused 196 and the wake-oriented V-drive Super Air Nautique 210. Built on a hull derived from the Sport Nautique platform, the 216 was engineered to deliver a balanced wake profile that could satisfy slalom skiers at recreational line lengths while also producing a solid, ramp-style wake for wakeboarders when loaded with passengers or ballast.

From 2001 to 2005, the 216 was available under the Air Nautique 216 and Nautique 216 designations, depending on trim and options. The Air Nautique 216 came equipped with a factory tower and ballast system for wake sports, while the standard Nautique 216 focused more on skiing and cruising. Both shared the same running surface and PCM engine lineup, typically featuring the 5.7L Excalibur 330 or the 6.0L ZR6 options.

The 216’s interior layout offered one of the most comfortable configurations of any direct drive in its class, with a full wraparound rear lounge, observer seat, and large open bow. The deeper freeboard provided a drier ride in choppier water, making it ideal for larger lakes. The boat’s performance was well balanced; it maintained a flat wake at slalom speeds yet developed a clean, progressive shape at wakeboarding speeds in the mid 20s.

In 2006, the model was renamed the Nautique 216 Limited Edition, featuring updated graphics and refined interior trim. By the late 2000s, the market shifted strongly toward V-drive configurations, and Correct Craft eventually discontinued the 216 to focus on the 200 and 211 models. Despite this, the 216 remains one of the best examples of a versatile direct drive crossover. Owners continue to value its combination of size, smooth ride, and high-quality construction that typifies Nautique craftsmanship.

Today, used Nautique 216 models are sought after by families who want a traditional inboard layout with ample space and comfort. Its hull design and engine reliability make it an enduring favorite among those who appreciate the responsive feel of a direct drive while still enjoying the comfort and functionality of a larger multisport boat.
