The Tige R20 is a 20 foot V drive wake and surf boat designed to deliver premium performance in a compact, affordable package. Introduced in the early 2010s, it brought Tige’s ConvexV hull and TAPS technology to a smaller footprint while maintaining the same attention to build quality and ride comfort found in larger models. The Tige R20 debuted for the 2012 model year as part of Tige’s R Series, which was developed to offer high level performance in a more compact design. Measuring 20 feet in length, the R20 shared many of the same engineering features found in the larger RZ and Z Series boats, including the ConvexV hull and TAPS 2 system. This gave the R20 the ability to produce customizable wakes and surf waves despite its smaller size.
The hull of the R20 was designed for versatility and control. The ConvexV shape allowed the boat to ride efficiently at cruising speeds and to sit deeper in the water at surf or wakeboarding speeds, creating clean and powerful wakes. The TAPS 2 system gave the driver precise control over the running attitude, letting them adjust wake size and shape on demand. This setup made the R20 suitable for everything from beginner to intermediate riders, as well as recreational skiing.
Inside, the R20 featured a deep, comfortable interior with wraparound lounge seating, an open bow, and practical storage areas. Although smaller than the flagship models, it offered a well-thought-out layout with room for up to twelve passengers. The helm was equipped with clear analog instrumentation and optional touchscreen controls, depending on model year. Interior finishes reflected Tige’s focus on quality materials and functional design.
Power for the R20 came from Indmar inboard engines, including the Raptor 343 in later model years. These engines provided dependable performance and strong low-end torque, allowing the boat to plane quickly and handle heavy ballast loads with ease. Despite its compact size, the R20 delivered an impressive surf wave and a balanced wakeboard wake that appealed to a wide range of users.
The R20 remained in production throughout the 2010s, receiving updates to interior design, tower options, and electronics. It continued to serve as Tige’s entry-level V drive model, combining affordability with the same proven technology found in larger boats. Even after production ended, the R20 remains a popular choice on the used market for buyers seeking a smaller, easy-to-trailer inboard that still delivers true surf and wake performance.
