The MasterCraft Maristar 230 is a 23-foot inboard designed for families who want luxury, performance, and space in one capable boat. The MasterCraft Maristar 230 was introduced in the mid-1990s as part of MasterCraft’s effort to build a larger, more luxurious inboard boat that could balance comfort with water sports performance. At roughly 23 feet in length, the Maristar 230 provided significant interior space and a deeper, heavier hull for a smoother ride and increased stability in open or choppy water.
Like other Maristar models, the 230 was built with premium fiberglass construction, composite stringers, and hand-finished interiors that reflected MasterCraft’s commitment to quality. It offered wraparound seating, abundant storage, and a layout that made it ideal for large families and groups. The deeper freeboard provided a secure feel on the water and made the boat comfortable for cruising and entertaining.
The Maristar 230 was available in both direct-drive and V-drive configurations depending on the model year. The direct-drive version appealed to those who preferred balanced wakes and responsive handling, while the V-drive version, often referred to as the Maristar 230 VRS, shifted the engine aft to create a larger wake and more interior space. The V-drive configuration became especially popular with wakeboarders during the late 1990s.
Typical engine options for the Maristar 230 included Indmar V8 inboards producing between 310 and 330 horsepower. These engines provided strong acceleration, solid midrange power, and excellent reliability. The hull design delivered a predictable, steady ride, with clean wakes for skiing at moderate speeds and a solid, ramp-style wake for wakeboarding when weighted properly.
The Maristar 230’s size and ride quality positioned it near the top of the Maristar lineup, second only to the larger 280 model. It represented a bridge between the company’s family-oriented runabouts and its sport-specific wake and surf boats that would follow. The Maristar 230 hull was later adapted into early X-Series boats, including the X-30, which shared its running surface and layout but added more wake-focused features.
Even though production of the Maristar line concluded in the 2000s, the Maristar 230 continues to have strong appeal in the used market. Its combination of build quality, space, and smooth performance makes it an excellent choice for families who want a versatile inboard that can handle a variety of water sports and cruising conditions.
